Judgement
豚鱼吉，利涉大川，利贞。
Pigs and fishes: good fortune. It furthers one to cross the great water. Furthered by steadfastness.

泽上有风，中孚。君子以议狱缓死。
Above the lake, wind: inner truth. So the superior man discusses matters with care to prepare for execution.
The Lines
虞吉，有他不燕。
Being at peace is auspicious; there are others — not ease.
初九“虞吉”，志未变也。
The first line’s being at peace: his will has not changed.
鸣鹤在阴，其子和之；我有好爵，吾与尔靡之。
The calling crane in the shade; its young answers. I have a good cup; I will share it with you.
“其子和之”，中心愿也。
Its young answers: the heart’s wish.
得敌，或鼓或罢，或泣或歌。
He finds his match; now beating the drum, now stopping; now weeping, now singing.
“或鼓或罢”，位不当也。
Now beating the drum, now stopping: the place is not right.
月几望，马匹亡，无咎。
The moon nearly full; the horse’s mate is lost; no blame.
“马匹亡”，绝类上也。
The horse’s mate is lost: he cuts his kind and goes above.
有孚挛如，无咎。
Sincerity bound like sinew; no blame.
“有孚挛如”，位正当也。
Sincerity bound like sinew: the place is right and proper.
翰音登于天，贞凶。
The pheasant’s voice rises to heaven; steadfastness is ill.
“翰音登于天”，何可长也！
The pheasant’s voice rises to heaven: how could that last?
Reading
风在泽上，动其水而不动其上。信不靠接触而成——象是豚鱼，不必争辩便自应的物。深到这种程度的诚，不说服人；它只把周遭安排妥当。
