Judgement
同人于野，亨。利涉大川，利君子贞。
Fellowship in the wilds: success. It furthers one to cross the great water; it furthers the superior man’s steadfastness.
The Image
天与火，同人。君子以类族辨物。
Heaven with fire: fellowship. So the superior man distinguishes kinds in the open.
The Lines
同人于门，无咎。
Fellowship at the gate. No blame.
出门同人，又谁“咎”也。
Fellowship at the gate: who could blame it?
同人于宗，吝。
Fellowship at the clan. Pitiable.
“同人于宗”，吝道也。
Fellowship at the clan: the way of pity.
伏戎于莽，升其高陵，三岁不兴。
He hides the bow in the thicket, climbs the high mound; three years he cannot rise.
“伏戎于莽”，敌刚也；“三岁不兴”，安行也？
The bow hidden in the thicket: the enemy is hard. Three years without rising: he does not walk.
乘其墉，弗克攻，吉。
He mounts the wall, but cannot attack. Good fortune.
“乘其墉”，义弗克也；其吉，则困而反则也。
Mounting the wall: by right he cannot attack. His good fortune: in trouble he returns to the rule.
同人，先号咷，而后笑，大师克相遇。
Fellowship: first lament, then laughter; the great army meets and joins.
“同人”之先，以中直也。大师相遇，言相克也。
Fellowship’s first lament: centrality and straightness. The great armies meet: they overcome each other.
同人于郊，无悔。
Fellowship in the wilds. No regret.
“同人于郊”，志未得也。
Fellowship in the wilds: the will is not yet attained.
Reading
火向上求合于天：同类相遇。同人在广众之中，不在密室——此卦看重经得起公开的结交。唯一的告诫是那伙自认同心的人：舒服不是同心。
