Judgement
元亨，利贞；至于八月，有凶。
Sublime success, furthered by steadfastness. When it comes to the eighth month, there is ill.

泽上有地，临。君子以教思无穷，容保民无疆。
Above the earth, the lake: approach. So the superior man teaches and cares without end; he thinks of the people’s endurance.
The Lines
咸临，贞吉。
Approaching together; steadfastness is auspicious.
“咸临，贞吉”，志行正也。
Approaching together, steadfastness auspicious: the will walks straight.
咸临，吉，无不利。
Approaching together: good fortune, nothing unfurthered.
“咸临，吉，无不利”，未顺命也。
Approaching together, good fortune, nothing unfurthered: not yet obedient to fate.
甘临，无攸利；既忧之，无咎。
Sweet approach: nothing furthers. Once troubled by it, no blame.
“甘临”，位不当也；“既忧之”，“咎”不长也。
Sweet approach: the place is not right. Once troubled by it, blame does not grow.
至临，无咎。
The utmost approach: no blame.
“至临，无咎”，位当也。
The utmost approach, no blame: the place is right.
知临，大君之宜，吉。
Wise approach: it is the great ruler’s fitness. Good fortune.
“大君之宜”，行中之谓也。
The great ruler’s fitness: the walking of the middle.
敦临，吉，无咎。
Generous approach: good fortune, no blame.
“敦临”之“吉”，志在内也。
The good fortune of generous approach: the will is inward.
