True Words Are Not Fine
The Text
True words are not fine; fine words are not true. The good do not argue; those who argue are not good. The wise are not learned; the learned are not wise. The sage does not hoard: the more he does for others, the more he has; the more he gives to others, the greater his abundance. The way of heaven benefits and does not harm; the way of the wise acts and does not contend.
Reading it
The book closes by telling you how to tell it from its imitations: polish is the tell. The economics of the sage invert inventory — outflow as accumulation — and the final sentence is the whole eighty-one chapters in eleven characters: benefit without harm, act without contending.
Retell one hard truth this week in plain, unlovely words. Then give something away and check whether it came back as abundance.
