The Way Is the Storehouse of All Things
The Text
The way is the storehouse of the ten thousand things — the treasure of the good, the shelter of the not-good. Fine words can be sold; honoured deeds can outshine crowds. Why abandon the not-good? So when the Son of Heaven is installed and the three ministers appointed, jade discs followed by teams of horses — that is not as good as sitting still and offering this way. Why did the ancients prize this way so? Did they not say: seek it and find; guilty, and be freed? That is why it is the treasure of the world.

A treasury with no admission exam — the shelter of the not-good is the scandal that makes it a treasure. The state ceremonial, jade and horses, is priced against the free thing and loses. Seek and find, guilty and freed: the way’s two services, both without paperwork.
Extend your best patience this week to the one person whose conduct you find least deserving of it. Note what that costs and what it changes.
