Chapter 4
The Ancestor of All Things
The Text
The way is an empty vessel, used yet never filled. Deep, it seems to precede even the Lord of the world. It dulls the edge, loosens the tangle, softens the glare, and levels with the dust. Clear, it seems to exist. Whose child is it? It appears to have come before anything.
Reading it
The vessel is the point: a thing that works because it is not already full. The last line refuses an origin story. Ancestry is attributed, not asserted — the way is older than whatever we called sacred first.
Practice for the week
Empty one container — a bag, an inbox, a shelf — and leave it empty for a week. Watch what you try to put in it.
