Chapter 33
Knowing Others Is Wisdom
知人者智
The Text
知人者智也，自知者明也。胜人者有力也，自胜者强也。
Knowing others is wisdom; knowing yourself is enlightenment. Mastering others requires force; mastering yourself requires strength.
Reading it
The chapter separates two kinds of competence that are often confused: reading other people, and reading yourself. The second is called strength, which is a strange word for it until you try.
这一章把两种常被混为一谈的能力分开：看别人，与看自己。后者称为「强」，这个字很奇怪，直到你去试。
