希言自然。故飘风不终朝，骤雨不终日。孰为此者？天地。天地尚不能久，而况于人乎？故从事于道者，同于道；德者，同于德；失者，同于失。
Sparing speech is natural. A whirlwind does not last a whole morning; a downpour does not last a whole day. What makes these? Heaven and earth. If heaven and earth cannot make violence last, how much less can a person? So one who follows the way is met by the way; one who follows virtue is met by virtue; one who follows loss is met by loss.
Reading it
Intensity cannot sustain itself — the weather proves it at planetary scale. The second half is a mirror law: whatever you persistently practise is what answers when you need it. Suddenness costs more than it buys.
